“ Connection:

A relationship in which a person or thing is linked or associated with something else. “

In hand made ceramics, cups that are made on a throwing wheel have ridges left along the cylinders walls from the artists finger shaping the clay.

Directly connecting the user to the maker as the users hands slot into these patterns left behind. Creating an uniting experience of an object made for human hands by human hands.

How can this experience be recreated?

Process

Negative form exploration, using clay to find the natural shape of the hand. This technique allowed for the creation of the prototype forms.

Final Concept

Functional, natural form for all ages.

Materials were selected for user comfort and final deigns were constructed for ease of disassembly and recyclability. The cold liquids form is made of two parts; a glass cylinder and a ring of wood. The hot liquids form would be made of three parts; an inside lining of porcelain, an outside wooden sleeve, and the ring of ether wood or cork. The children's form uses studier materials such as a plastic cylinder and rubber ring.

Prototyping & Process

Prototype forms were made from paper, clay, and later 3D printed. They were user tested for comfort and easy of use. The final series of forms included awareness of material foresight and recyclability.

3D Printing Experimentations

The final product was designed so that each material could be made into its separate form and fit together to make the final concept.
